After 27 years with Walmart Stores and serving as a Corporate Officer from 2001 to 2013 and holding several roles, Theresa Barrera-Shaw retired from Walmart Stores Inc. She left Walmart to pursue other interests and passions. In 2013, she started a Professional Retail Consulting firm, The Barrera-Shaw Group.
She is known for her results-focused leadership, specializing in driving sales and profit margins as well as process improvement. She delivers world-class customer service, and cultivates a strong brand image. During her tenure as the Supplier Administration Officer, the Walmart Supplier Diversity Program did over $11.8 billion with diverse suppliers in 2012. A diverse supplier consisted of the following categories: Hispanic Americans, African Americans, Asian Americans, Native American/Alaskan Eskimos, women, veterans, disabled veterans, and people with disabilities. Under her leadership, Walmart grew their spending in supplier diversity from $4.2 billion in 2007 to $11.8 billion in 2012. In 2011, Walmart announced a $20 billion commitment to purchase from women-owned businesses.
