Sarah of Minnesota Mama’s Must Haves was inspired to participate in the Make The Switch Challenge with Jennie-O and Champions For Kids and to use the experience as a way to teach her children about the importance of giving to those in need.
For this project, Sarah’s family gave up white bread and other unhealthy baked goods. Already a fan of the health benefits of protein-packed turkey, Sarah’s family are not strangers to delicious turkey meals. “If you haven’t given turkey a try yet then give it a chance! Swap out ground beef with ground turkey at your next meal and see if you notice the difference. I typically add a little more seasoning when making things like meatballs or tacos with it.”
Sarah’s family made a donation of healthy foods to their local food bank with their savings. “My kids learned the value of donating healthy food to kids in need. It boggled their minds that some kids don’t have food to eat. It was such an important lesson to instill in them and by including them in the whole process it really sunk in and they still talk about it!”
