Just4Me Summer Food Program
The Just4Me summer food program provides children in need with food over the summer months. During the school year, these students can participate in our Food 4 Thought backpack program which provides a weekend’s worth of food each Friday during the school year. However, once school ends, the backpack program also ends. The Just4Me program provides three monthly food deliveries and is funded entirely through community donations. Individuals, civic organizations, churches, and business donate money. Two community volunteers coordinate the entire program from fundraising, to purchasing the food, to managing volunteers to pack the food boxes and make the deliveries. Each month during the summer, 7-10 volunteers spend 3-4 hours packing the boxes for the children. Then, on the last Saturday of the month 10-12 volunteers load the boxes into their trucks and SUVs and deliver the food to the families. All of the children involved in the program are part of the free and reduced lunch program in our schools and receive breakfast and lunch each day during the school year. Without the Just4Me program, these students may go hungry during the summer.
