Boys at Ferncliff Camp prepare meals for international school feeding programs.

Ferncliff: Party with a Purpose

Ferncliff is a growing camp and retreat facility with a focus on hospitality, sustainability, and outreach. Children who come to Ferncliff get involved in a hands-on service project that is fun and practices their faith by helping other people. One evening each week, campers have a "Party with a Purpose."

During these events, participants package meals to be used in international school feeding programs. Before beginning the process, everyone dons fashionable hairnets and sanitizes their hands and get oriented to the Stop Hunger Now organization and the meal packaging process. Then, everyone picks a job and starts helping. The process goes like this: One group pours the ingredients (rice, soy, vitamin, dried veggies) into a bag; the next group weighs the package; the third group seals the bag; and the last group completes the process by boxing the meals so they are ready to be transported. Dance music is turned up and the campers party and package meals.

Ferncliff Camp raises $14,500 for the food and supplies to do this program every year. Last year, Ferncliff packaged 45,000 meals that went to Honduras. This year, campers have packaged and boxed 50,000 meals!
